- French lavender is one of the oldest perfume ingredients available. In fact, the earliest known use of lavender may date back to ancient Egypt, where it is speculated that the plant was used as perfume and as part of the mummification process. The ancient Romans were obsessed with lavender, believing it to be a purifying plant, and the name even comes from the Latin verb lavare, meaning to cleanse.
That being said, lavender has a rich history in the perfumery field. This ingredient is also known for its soothing and calming properties. It's wonderful as the star of a fragrance, but it also blends well with other scents as a supporting note.
